Working with Your Architect
When you see a beautifully built building you can be assured that a skilled architect was behind its design.
Every building is a collaboration between the owner, the architect, and a team of professionals and tradesmen. You can do a number of things that will assist in getting the project going in a timely fashion.
First, you need to write down the most important goals you have for your building. These may range from accommodating a specific number of people, energy-efficiency, budgetary restraints, exterior aesthetics, uniqueness of interior features, or the like. These need to be prioritized and given any specifics that you have in mind. Do you already have the property, or do you need assistance in finding and securing the site. Feasibility and cost usually control the project more than most other factors, so you need to have a good understanding of these before we begin.
Second, based on this list of priorities, we can decide what team members are going to be required and we can begin narrowing down a list of these people/ companies. Time schedules and budgets for each phase must be developed. In some cases a contractor can be a valuable team member in establishing costs and time of construction, because of the ever changing variations in the market place.
Suitability of property is critical at the very beginning of any project, and depending upon the complexity of the building a geotechnical investigation or civil engineering study can save us from surprises and costly delays. All of these issues will be the first steps to be taken on our journey to a successful project;
